Imagine that it weren't the Pittsburgh Penguins who won the Stanley Cup this year. Imagine that it wasn't even a team from the Eastern Conference - let's say that Los Angeles Kings became the champions instead.

Imagine that it was Steven Stamkos who won the goal scoring race in the 2016/2017 season with 52 goals in 80 games. Could this really happen if he avoided injuries?

Let's say that Connor McDavid won the Art Ross Trophy but not with 100 points but a bit more - could the miraculous kid record seven points more?

And what if Corey Crawford won both Vezina and Jennings trophies? Could he really be that good?

Could Peter Chiarelli beat David Poile for the GM of the year trophy?

Imagine that not only the Vegas Golden Knights filed an application for 2017 NHL expansion. Let's say that there was one more team. Let's name them Quebec Voyageurs.

Imagine that there is a bunch of talented prospects around 17 years old who weren't really noticed by anyone until now. Let's say that their names are...

Looking very strong. There seems to be less restrictions in that draft than in real life (young players).

Yes, it works differently and I focused on mainly getting young guys. However the downside is that I won't participate in the Entry draft this year.

Well, I see a couple players that I may enjoy playing with when I get drafted. I am okay being a point per game D-man. :)

Some small update from the free agency...

Quebec Voyageurs have signed so far...
Nino Niderreiter to a two years, 6M contract,
Marc Staal to a two years, 4M deal,
Anthony Duclair to a three years, 4M deal,
Joonas Donskoi to a two years 1.9M deal.

I'm also building the coaching stuff...
Bob Hartley will serve as the head coach,
Mattias Norstrom as an assistant coach focusing on defensemen,
Shane Clifford as a goalie coach,
Bobby Carpenter as an assistant coach focusing on forwards,
    Matthew Hamilton as physical/skills coach.

I'm still looking for more scouts and a physio trainer.

After hiring more staff I moved through the off season. Among notable names in my personnel now are e.g. Peter Forsberg, Valeri Kamensky, Martin Rucinsky and Jason Arnott (all as scouts).

I was also able to sign Malcolm Subban (@Mizu) to a three years deal under a million per. He was a RFA but Boston apparently did not want him anymore. He will not play in the big league this year unless we are severely hit by injuries but he could prove his worth in the future.

    I signed these players too:
Jacob de la Rose - 3 years, 3M
    Viktor Arvidsson - 2 years 3.6M

Interesting was also the fact that the Pens bought out Määttä. I offered him a contract but apparently he does not want to play for a new club that has low chance to succeed immediately. So he rather went to the Capitals where he was sent to the minors immediately. Well, enjoy Olli :p

Speaking of Washington - I traded them rights to Nail Yakupov (who wanted too much money for my liking anyway) plus a 7th round pick for a first rounder which will give me a better chance to draft one of the "real" Quebec guys ;)

Mikkel Boedker was chosen as our captain, Martin Hanzal and Marc Staal as his alternates.

Starting lineup for the first pre-season game:

    Hagelin - Cogliano - Nash
    Niederreiter - Sutter - Boedker
    Arvidsson - Hanzal - Rust
    Rychel - Sundstrom - Kamenev

    Staal - Niskanen
    Morrissey - Greene
    Stuart - Hickey

    Fleury
    Allen

(It was a game against Buffalo and we won 5-4, Hagelin with 3 assists in the game, Hickey injured for about 6 games)

We won three pre-season games, lost four. The results were often quite tight. It's probably as much as I can expect from this new team at this point so I'm quite positive about the start but obviously I hope the performance will be improving even though only slightly. The goalies split the games and surprisingly Allen did better job than Fleury.

Skater stats for the off season:

Apart from Hickey also Riley Nash was injured but both of them are back and ready for the regular season (Nash not back in 100% condition but he should be soon). What's worse is that our captain is out for aproximately 7 months with fractured hip. Not the best start for this franchise.

We'll see how it goes though.

Ouch, those are long injuries in that game. That roster still looks strong, even without Boedker.

Bob Hartley is a solid choice.

Rinne traded to Washington and left unprotected?

To strengthen our depth I added Marko Daňo from FA - 3 years of two way deal. We will see what he can do in Thetford before putting him to the big league though.

During the first quarter of the season we mostly avoided major injuries (except Thomas Hickey who will be out for one or two months) but Oliver Kylington in Thetford wasn't that lucky. He's out long term and the prediction is very unsure at the moment, it could be potentially even career ending which is cruel to the 20 years old defensive talent.

We are not winning enough to my liking but that could be kind of expected I guess. I'm not giving up yet. After 20 games we have 20 points.
We also had one weird game against Florida that we lost 7-5.

    Here are the individual stats:

As you can see the goalies are splitting games in a fair way. As the opposite of the pre-season, Flower does slighty better. Here is the current lineup but it's still changing:
